I recently upgraded my XP to Windows 7 on a CF51 Panasonic toughbook. I was quite proud to accomplish this myself with limited Microsoft support. Now, the sound does not work, although it shows speakers functioning at 100%. Panasonic claims to not support Windows 7, and Microsoft tells me it's a manufacturers issue. Please advise an Microsoft update or any generic driver installation which will not cost me $$ to speak to a tech specialist.

Its usually up to the manufacturer of the PC to make drivers for it, so Panasonic would usually supply them IF they support W7 for your PC. Unless anyone else has a real download site for the driver or an alternative option to try (so it may be worth waiting a while to see):- Have a look at this which seems to have a few suggestions - for a similar sounding problem. But be aware, it appears some of the suggestions are just trying W7 drivers for similar sound cards intended for other PCs ( one is a panasonic CF-52 apparently ), so nothing is guaranteed and it may have adverse effects. If you do try, make a backup of your system as it is now so you can recover to this point, or at the very least make a restore point. Also remember to get the correct type of driver, 32 or 64 bit as required by your PC.

Related type of post for a Dell - Its not guaranteed to work and it may not. If you have 32bit W7 then you could also try the XP driver via compatibility mode along these lines - which can occasionally help, but again is not guarenteed and may cause other problems.
